This second post has taken forever to write. Why? I believe it is because there was no deadline, and I had too much time to complete the task. It is a real thing I see every day with my son.
My son can do anything. He’s intelligent and capable but gets a bit lost if given too much time on a task. Make the task time-bound, and he excels!
If you have a project task with a one-month deadline, try creating “mini-deadlines” within the task, or subtasks with due dates. I did this when writing my thesis, and it really helped me separate this large, daunting task into something I could focus on and complete. Most importantly, I am motivated by success and proud of “getting it done.”
This doesn’t only help with large tasks. It could be a medium or small task that has been given a lot of time for completion. If you keep a task (no matter the size) moving forward with smaller, incremental tasks, the due date can be easily met without the stress of procrastination.
