Use what tools you have

Everyone and every team needs tools. They need to have access to and understand what the tools are generally used for and why, as well as to be able to adopt and use what is available.

For instance:

  • Outlook or Gmail – email and calendar (plus many other things if desired).
  • Monday/Jira/ClickUp/Excel – could be used for project management and task organization.
  • Teams/Slack – quick informal chats.

Use what is available, determine how it can be used, and then decide what works best for what—iteratively and without resistance to change. Your team will have opinions and hopefully tell you what works best. Then, make sure everyone is on the same page and do it. Use what you have.

Using what you have is essential—licenses have probably been bought, content has already been created, and most importantly, this is what you have today. Keep track of what you like and don’t like and then bring that to the table when the contract expires and the owner opens up discussions about a replacement.
